Major General Yossi Pariente has been appointed commander of the Jerusalem district by the Chief of Police and Public Security Minister, it was announced on Thursday.

Pariente was serving as the commander of the Southern District.

He is replacing Niso Shaham, who is on a "forced leave of absence" after he was questioned for allegedly harassing female police officers under his command.

Shaham has announced that he will retire.
