Youths convicted of gang rape imprisoned, fined

The Tel Aviv Juvenile Court sentenced on Wednesday the main defendant in a gang rape case to six years imprisonment.
The remaining 13 youths, who were variously convicted of rape, sexual assault, indecent acts and sodomy, received punishments ranging from community service to prison sentences, as part of a plea bargain.
The 14 youths were also ordered to pay the victim compensation to a total of NIS 200,000.
According to the indictment, the main defendant had been in a relationship with the victim, a 14 year old girl. When the defendant broke off the relationship the girl threatened suicide.
The defendant realized that because of the girl's emotional state, he could take advantage of her and told his friends, the other 13 defendants, that they could have sex with her.
The defendants then took turns to sexually assault the girl, who was too afraid to refuse. During the abuse, the main defendant would hold the victim's hand and comfort her, the indictment read. The sexual assault of the girl continued for three years.
