The keynote address will be delivered by General (Res) Giora Eiland. Tuesday, November 21 * Civilian society in the War of Independence is the title of the David Smilanski memorial conference to be held from 9.30 a .m. in the Brender Law Auditorium on the Tel Aviv University campus. The opening address in the first session will be delivered by Natan Braun of the Hebrew University Jerusalem and Bar Ilan University and will focus on politics and the Israeli justice system in the first year of statehood. The keynote address in the second session to be delivered by Moti Golani of the University of Haifa is titled 'By the Skin of their Teeth' and deals with the authority of the Mandate from the beginning of the war to the time of the British evacuation. * A timely Hebrew University conference related to current events will pose the question "Lessons learned and inquiry commissions - do the two go together?" The conference begins at 5.30 p.m.,in the university's Senate Hall, on the Mount Scopus Campus.
