Sunday, February 11 The Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency for Israel will convene at the Inbal Hotel, Jerusalem, for three days of meetings. The integration of private producers of electricity into the Israeli market is the topic of a symposium to be held at Kfar Hamaccabiah, Ramat Gan from 1:30 p.m. Speakers will include senior representatives of the Israel Electric Corporation and the Ministry for National Infrastructure. The closing address will be delivered by National Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben Eliezer. Tuesday, February 13 Reforms in the Defense Budget will be the key topic of discussion at the Caesarea Forum, which will convene at the Dan Caesarea Hotel under the auspices of the Israel Democracy Institute. Participants include: Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson, Defense Minister Amir Peretz, Governor of the Bank of Israel Stanley Fischer, members of the Knesset Economic Committee and various government officials, leading economists and members of the defense establishment. The forum will address the need for a multi-year defense budget and the need to establish a systematic mode of operation in which the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Defense, and the prime minister can construct the defense budget. David Brodet, the academic director of the forum also heads the Brodet Committee appointed by the prime minister to assess the defense budget. Heading the research team that prepared recommendations for budget reforms in the defense system is the former director-general of the Defense Ministry, Ilan Biran. Port2Port, a multi-faceted international conference on air land and sea freight transportation will be held at the Avenue Convention Center, Airport City, with the participation of Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz, senior ministry officials and prominent members of the Finance Ministry, Israel Railways, the Shipping and Ports Administration as well as other major Israeli institutions. There will also be several speakers from Europe representing government and non-government transport and transport-related enterprises. Monday, February 19 Women are making ever greater inroads into the world of business and high finance. Some 30 successful Israeli businesswomen who have made their mark in academia, investments, capital markets, pension funds, banking, real estate, restaurants, environmental organizations, and other fields will present their stories within the framework of the annual Women's Festival in Holon. Tuesday, February 20 Microsoft Executive Circle in conjunction with the Leon Recanati School for Business Administration at Tel Aviv University will host a seminar on business initiatives and strategies under the title Balanced Scorecard. Thursday, February 22 Tourism Minister Isaac Herzog, Agriculture Minister Shalom Simhon, and Gilboa Regional Council chairman Danny Atar will be the main speakers at a seminar at Geva in the Gilboa to pave the way for new initiatives and increased tourism to country areas. One of the major items tabled for discussion is the value of a hippodrome in developing tourism and the local economy. Also tabled for discussion is how to develop rustic tourism on farms. The seminar will be conducted under the title "From concept to reality." Friday, February 23 Dr. Adina Meir Maril of the School of Architecture in the Faculty of Arts at Tel Aviv University will address Friends of Tel Aviv University on Architecture, the International Style and Bauhaus in Israel. The lecture in the Bar Shira Audiorium on the TAU campus, will be preceded by the findings of a study by Daphna Shaked of the School of Government and Policy on a second career for senior army officers in the world of business. The event begins at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 27 Nobel Prize laureate, Prof. Daniel Kahneman, of the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University will give the annual Eitan Berglas Memorial lecture at the School of Economics, Tel Aviv University.
