Sunday, January 13 PRESIDENT SHIMON Peres will be the keynote speaker at a two-day conference at the Herzliya's Daniel Hotel on "An Agreement within a Year: How to Reach a Peace Agreement in 2008," sponsored by the Geneva Initiative. Panels of Israeli, Palestinian and US experts will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the negotiating parties. Among the speakers will be Dan Kurtzer, formerly US ambassador to Israel and Egypt; Rob Malley, formerly advisor to US president Bill Clinton; MK Yossi Beilin, co-architect of the Geneva Initiative; Saeb Erekat, head negotiator for the Palestinian Authority; Dov Weisglass, formerly an advisor to prime minister Ariel Sharon; and Khalil Shikaki, a Palestinian analyst and pollster. The four-day event will be attended by more than 1,000 women from WIZO federations from around the globe, representing Jewish communities in 36 countries. Among the speakers will be Peres, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Welfare and Social Services Minister Isaac Herzog, Education Minister Yuli Tamir, Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik, MK Shelly Yacimovich, MK Limor Livnat, MK Haim Oron and Ambassador to the United Nations Dan Gillerman. The event is within the framework of Israel's 60th anniversary celebrations. Monday, January 14 AN INTERNATIONAL symposium in English on "The Contribution of the Eichmann Trial to International Criminal Law" will be held at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem's Mount Scopus campus, 3 p.m. in Senate Hall, in honor of retired Supreme Court justice Gabriel Bach on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Speakers will include Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch, Bach, President of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda Lord Denis Byron and Reserve Trial Judge Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia Claudia Fenz. AN INTERNATIONAL three-day conference on "Jewish Art in Context: The Role of Meaning of Artifacts and Visual Images" will be held at Tel Aviv University. It will establish the foundation for a new project that has been launched at The Goldstein-Goren Diaspora Research Project, headed by Dr. Simha Goldin, and Dr. Naomi Feuchtwanger-Sarig, the project coordinator of the Jewish Art and Visual Culture Research Project. The purpose of the conference is to bring together researchers from all over the world, who regard Jewish visual art as an historic document that maintains a continual dialogue with the surrounding, non-Jewish environment. The conference will host 47 researchers from 11 countries. Tuesday, January 15 AN INTERNATIONAL workshop on "Governmentality in International Politics" will be held by the HU's Leonard Davis Institute for International Relations at 9 a.m. in Abba Eban Hall, Davis Building, Mount Scopus. They have been compiled into book form by the Jabotinsky Institute, which is hosting a symposium on their contents at 6 p.m. at the Jabotinsky Institute, 38 King George Street, Tel Aviv. The participants will include Dr. Moshe Halevi, Prof. Anita Shapira and attorney Yoram Aridor. Jabotinsky Institute director Yossi Achimeir will be the moderator. Thursday, January 17 THE EILAT Business Conference for small- and medium-sized businesses will be held over a three-day period. Public relations guru Ran Rahav and Minister-without-Portfolio Ruhama Avraham, who is the liaison for Israel's 60th anniversary celebrations, will participate.
