The gross average wage among Israeli salary-earners increased to NIS 8,072 in May, the Central Bureau of Statistics said Wednesday. Trend data showed there was a 1.2 percent growth in the number of workers between March and May on an annualized basis. Employees in the banking, insurance and financial sector were the highest earners during the period with an average monthly salary of NIS 22,373, taking the place of workers at the Israel Electric Company who were earning a monthly salary of an average of NIS 18,559. At the lower end of the salary ladder were employees in the education sector, with an average monthly wage of NIS 6,040, followed by workers employed in community services, earning an average monthly salary of NIS 5,188. Agriculture workers earned an average monthly salary of NIS 5,151. The lowest earners were employees in the hospitality and food services sector with an average salary of NIS 3,753.
