A Dubai developer says it has built an Olympic-size ice skating rink in this desert boomtown. Emaar Malls Group said Sunday a 1.5 inch (38-mm.) ice bed would host recreational skaters, on-ice performances and international hockey matches. The ice is three times thicker than the US hockey league standard. The ice rink will open on Thursday, the developer said. Dubai already has an indoor ski slope and a dining lounge, made entirely of ice, despite the city's sizzling, year-round heat. Emaar Malls Group is part of Emaar Properties, the state-owned developer of Burj Dubai, which is set to become world's tallest skyscraper.
