Discount Bank workers on strike today

Labor dispute is over the rights of temporary workers, who have been employed by the bank for five to seven years.

Israel Discount Bank’s 5,000 employees will be on strike Wednesday, closing all of the the bank’s branches. They are to attend a conference in Tel Aviv with Histadrut Labor Federation chairman Ofer Eini.

The labor dispute, which has been ongoing for several weeks, is over the rights of temporary workers, who have been employed by the bank for five to seven years. They have not been given the status of permanent workers, which means they have no job security and could be fired at any time.


Israel Discount Bank said direct banking channels including telephone, Internet and other automatic banking services would operate as usual on Wednesday.
