Israelis consume NIS 900 million of ice cream and popsicles per year, Credit Information Association, a unit of Gaon Capital Markets, said Sunday. The average Israeli eats about 10 liters of ice cream per year, less than half of the 22-liter average found in the US. Contributing to that low figure is the fact that 70% of Israelis only eat ice cream during the summer, while people in other Western countries tend to eat it all year round, the report said. Some 60% of ice cream purchases are single-serving "impulse buys," while 30% are bulk purchases in supermarkets and corner stores. The most popular flavors - old fashioned chocolate and vanilla.
