Oil prices spike with continued Mideast violence

Oil prices spiked Monday following a production shutdown at a large oil field in the US state of Alaska and the continuing violence in the Middle East. Light, sweet crude for September delivery was up 97 US cents to US$75.73 a barrel in early afternoon Asian electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
