Record number of tourists in January

Some 182,000 tourists visited in January 2008, a growth of 57% compared to January 2007.

This year started with a record number of tourists entering Israel. Some 182,000 tourists visited in January 2008, a growth of 57% compared to January 2007 (116,000) and an increase of 34% compared to January 2006 (136,000). According to data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics, 121,000 of the tourists entered Israel by airways, representing an increase of 27%, while 29,000 entered via land borders, twice the number than in January 2007. During the same months, 31,000 of the tourists entered Israel for a one-day-trip, mainly tourists from Russia, Ukraine and Poland, marking five times the number of the one-day-tripper in January 2007.
