Remember when Dior designer John Galliano got drunk and made anti-Semitic slurs? Well, SNL's Seth Meyers certainly does. The "Weekend Update" anchor hosted the CFDA awards (a.k.a the Oscars of fashion) this week, where he cracked that "fashion and comedy go together like Galliano and bar mitzvahs." The joke didn't go over too well with the crowd, so he said it went "so badly, I'm going to get fired from Dior." Read his full speech here.
The biggest scandal in New York these days is Mayor Michael Bloomberg's ban on oversized sugary drinks. As always, Jon Stewart has his own take on the issue.
A big mazel tov goes out to Drew Barrymore, who married her baby-daddy and member of the tribe Will Kopelman this week in a custom-made Chanel gown. Guests included fellow Charlie's Angel Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, and Jimmy Fallon. Earlier this year, gossip blogs reported that Barrymore is converting to Judaism for Kopelman, and friend Adam Sandler is helping her through the process.
In casting news, Goldie Hawn, Jason Bateman, Zac Efron and Leslie Mann are going to sit shiva together in This is Where I Leave You, an adaptation of Jonathan Tropper's comic novel about four siblings who come home to sit shiva for their father. The movie will be directed by Adam Shankman, and production is set to start in September.
Woody Allen's next movie seems to be taking a different direction than his recent views-of-Europe-with-Penelope-Cruz films. The still-untitled movie will be filmed this summer in New York and San Francisco, and will star comedian Louis C.K., Cate Blanchett, Andrew Dice Clay, Alec Baldwin and Lost's Michael Emerson – a very interesting combination of personalities.
Meet Idan Pinchot, the "Jewish Justin Bieber." The 13-year-old has been posting videos of himself performing covers on YouTube, and was featured on this week's episode of America's Got Talent. The judges – Howard Stern, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel, all of whom happen to be Jewish – loved his performance and sent him to the show's next round in Las Vegas.
