The Green Leadership classrooms installed by KKL-JNF in grade schools all over Israel provide pupils with an awareness of Zionism and the environment. With the help of its friends worldwide, KKL-JNF installs these open classrooms made of wood in schoolyards, where they are the site of instructive sessions about sustainability, ecology, geography and history. Of course, the children also hang out together in the classrooms during recess. “Green leadership activities connect us to nature and to the environment,” said Daniel Gurevich, a 5th grader from Sderot, “and we are learning to know our land and to love it.”

To date, KKL-JNF has installed 250 of these classrooms all over Israel with an emphasis on peripheral localities, thirty of them in the Negev. The present goal is to reach a total of 300 Green Leadership classrooms by the end of this year. Some of the classrooms have been funded by friends of KKL-JNF worldwide, among them a donation from Ms. Giuditta Matalon from Milan, Italy, for five classrooms in Sderot, Netivot and the Sedot Negev Regional Council.
