KKL-JNF Foresters Share Expertise in Montenegro

At the end of January a deputation of KKL-JNF foresters visited the city of Podgorica, in Montenegro. Delegation members Yaakov Arak, his son Pavla, and Michael Weinberger of KKL-JNF’s Central and Northern Region’s Afforestation Division took part in forestry seminars and special ceremonies. This brief mission enabled the KKL-JNF representatives to get together with their Montenegrin colleagues to share their knowledge and expertise on forestry issues.

The delegation members represented KKL-JNF at the local International Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremony, which was attended by Mr. Yasha Alfandari, KKL-JNF’s representative in Montenegro, officials from the Ministry of Education, the Municipality and the Jewish Community, together with students from the Gymnasium.

Over the course of their visit, the delegation members conducted a two-day forestry seminar comprising of lectures and tours that focused mainly on forest fires and their prevention. Among the participants was Montenegro’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture (who specializes in forestry), accompanied by forestry engineers from his office, regional forestry experts, woodsmen and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Security who specialize in rescue operations entailed by natural disasters.
