MIERA Community of Abidjan to Plant 1,000 Trees in Israel
On November 24th, the MIERA Evangelist Church held an 'I Love Israel' event with its congregants. The aim: to raise funds for the planting of 1,000 trees in Israel, through KKL-JNF, as an expression of love and friendship towards the State of Israel.
About 1,000 people attended the event, packing the church and even spilling out into the street. The participants danced and sang local hits as well as Hebrew songs and prayers, expressing their love for the State of Israel and its people, and for KKL-JNF.
The event was organized by MIERA in collaboration with the J'aime Israël (I love Israel) NGO.
Honored guests were Israel's Ambassador to the Côte d' Ivoire HE Isi Yanouka, Consul of Israel in Côte d' Ivoire Mr. Ido Bromberg, and KKL-JNF Emissary to Belgium Olivier Rafowicz.
A film about KKL-JNF titled 'Creating A Better Tomorrow' was shown at the event, and KKL-JNF's Olivier Rafowicz spoke about the activities of KKL-JNF, and explained the significance of planting a tree in Israel, both for Israel and for the community.
MIERA has already begun raising money to plant the first stage of 1000 trees. The community hopes to begin planting towards the beginning of next year.
At the end of the event, both the Israeli Anthem Hatikvah and the anthem of the Ivory Coast were sang.
According to KKL-JNF's Olivier Rafowicz, the event was "a Zionist event of the top order."
