New Sports Facility in Pardes Katz
The Pardes Katz neighborhood of Bnei Brak has a new basketball court, thanks to a contribution from friends of KKL-JNF in Italy. The sports facility will make an important contribution to this neighborhood, which is populated by needy families. The dedication ceremony was attended by KKL-JNF executives from Israel and from Italy, the Italian Ambassador to Israel, senior officers from the Bnei Brak Municipality, neighborhood residents, and local children. It was also attended by two famous athletes, former basketball star Tal Brody and Olympic judoka champion Arik Ze'evi. The event was emceed jointly by Elisha Mizrahi of the KKL-JNF Public Relations Division and Rafi Ovadia, the KKL-JNF Emissary in Italy.
Local Pardes Katz resident, thirteen-year-old Elad Aboutboul, said, “It’s very important that there’s a basketball court like this one in our neighborhood. We love sports, and it’s great that from now on we’ll have where to practice. Children that used to wander around the streets and get into trouble will now be able to do sports and positive activities thanks to this new place.” Elad recalled how the lot looked before the makeover. “Neglected and trashed, with iron wreckage and boards scattered all over the place, a place not at all suitable for sports or children.”
“KKL-JNF is not just a green Zionist organization but also an important social organization,” said KKL-JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzler. “What we have constructed here is a beautiful court, where the children can play ball, and make friends strengthening the social fabric of the neighborhood. We have prioritized environmental education, and we will continue promoting projects in this region.”
