Peruvian President Plants a Tree in the Grove of Nations

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso planted a tree in the Grove of Nations in the Jerusalem Forest, which is situated below Yad VaShem. Among those taking part in the planting ceremony were KKL-JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzler, Peruvian Ambassador to Israel José Luis Salinas Montes, Israeli Ambassador to Peru Modi Efraim, the presidential entourage and Talya Lador-Fresher, Chief of State Protocol at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Planting a tree is an expression of friendship and good will, and there is no better opportunity to do this than here, at the Grove of Nations, where the different countries of the world are represented,” said President Ollanta Humala Tasso of the Republic of Peru during the ceremony.

The Peruvian president joined over seventy other heads of state from around the world, who have already each planted a tree in the Jerusalem Forest’s Grove of Nations as a sign of their friendship with the State of Israel and their identification with the Jewish people, and as a symbol of peace between the nations of the world.

“This tree we have planted will grow and provide fruit and shelter,” said President Tasso. “This is just one tree among millions, but it represents over thirty million citizens of Peru.”
