Please the Trees Band Plants Trees in Israel

With a name like Please the Trees, it was only natural for the members of this Czech band to plant trees in a KKL-JNF forest during their recent concert tour in Israel. In fact, they do so in every country they visit, as Vaclav Havelca, the band leader and lead guitarist, explained: "When I originally got the band together, I was a solo songwriter. Each of us had a name for their own individual musical project, but we didn't know what to call our new collaboration or who would be interested in us. One of us said, 'we'll play for the trees', and right away we decided that's what we'd call ourselves, "Please the Trees". After spending time with John Reynolds, a musicologist and gardener friend in New York who had been secretly planting trees around town, he gave us the idea that the band should plant a tree in every city where we perform.

"The idea of planting trees everywhere isn't about politics, it's actually more abstract.
We put pictures of the trees we planted all over the world on our Facebook page, and you can also find them on Google maps. When we come back to a country, we like to check out our trees, and we definitely would love to come back to Israel."
