Prime Minister Opens Tu Bishvat 2014 at the Grove of Nations
This year's Tu Bishvat events were opened at an official ceremony at the Grove of the Nations in Jerusalem, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Mr. Benyamin Netanyahu. By planting a tree here, Mr. Netanyahu joined other heads of states who planted trees in the grove, as a sign of friendship between nations and as a symbol of peace. KKL-JNF is holding about 200 ceremonies and events throughout Israel in honor of the New Year for Trees.
"Tu Bishvat is a profound expression of hope and faith," said Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu during the ceremony. "One does not plant a tree for one or two years, but for dozens of years. This is belief in the future."
KKL-JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzler noted that during Tu Bishvat, over a million trees will be planted during ceremonies throughout the country. "We are proud that Tu Bishvat 5774 has the greatest number of events in Israel's history," Stenzler said and added: "This is the first time that a prime minister of Israel is planting a tree in the Grove of the Nations, where heads of states plant trees. Whoever plants a tree in Israel also takes root in the country. Tu Bishvat is the symbol of KKL-JNF's green revolution. We will continue what our forefathers began 113 years ago."
