Sen. Mario Mantovani of Lombardia Plants a Tree for Peace
"It is a great honor for me to plant a tree here at the Kennedy Peace Forest, in memory of all the fallen victims during the holocaust in Lombardia. Lombardia helped the Jewish people during the war," said Italian Health Minister and Vice President of Lombardia Mr. Mrio Mantovani, on the occasion of planting a tree in the Yad Kennedy Peace Forest. The planting took place in the Grove of the Righteous Among the Nations.
Mr. Mario Mantovani, who is on a four days visit in Israel at the invitation of the Mount Sinai Institution and the Israel Ministry of Health, opted to begin his stay by planting a tree at the KKL-JNF Kennedy Peace section in Aminadav Forest. "It is only the beginning of our trip, it is our first day and we chose to start here by planting a tree," Mantovani continued. "I feel it is the most important moment in our visit, to honor our friendship between Israel and Lombardia. I am so glad to be here in Israel".
The tree planted today represents the contribution of Italian Political officials, those secular and religious, Mr. Silvio Berlusconi, and the Pope Jonathon II, to peace and social justice.
"The Grove of the Righteous Among the Nations is a short and clear statement that represents a world of values and characteristics of a deeply righteous group of people, through their exemplified values of social justice, loving ones neighbors, and loving ones fellow man for man's sake," said Etti Lankry of KKL-JNF's European Desk. "We wish that just as the tree, which we plant here today, will grow and spread its roots, so too you will continue to strength the friendship between our two nations."
