A cycling trail in Independence Park in Tel Aviv, developed thanks to the support of Jim Spatz, his family and friends, and friends of JNF Canada, was dedicated at a ceremony attended by Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, KKL-JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzler, Jim Spatz himself and several of his close friends.
Dr. Jim Spatz is a Canadian entrepreneur and MD known for his love for Israel and his social involvement. “Israel has always had an important place in my life since my childhood,” he said at the ceremony.
The Spatz Cycling Trail extends from Carlton Beach to Metzitzim Beach and is part of a longer route from Bat Yam in the south to Herzliya in the north, a project undertaken by the Tel Aviv Foundation. A 1-kilometer segment of it was repaired and widened thanks to the donation of friends of JNF Canada.
"KKL-JNF has developed more than 1,300 kilometers of cycling trails
all over Israel, from the Golan Heights to Eilat,” said KKL-JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzler. “Future generations of walkers
and bike riders in Tel Aviv will enjoy this trail and the landscapes along its length. Tel Aviv is not only the first Hebrew city but also the first city in Israel that promotes cycling as a means of transportation.”
The dedication ceremony for the trail took place in the plaza of the Carlton Hotel and was emceed by Tzvika Kanor, CEO of the Tel Aviv Foundation, which paved the trail. Kanor said he is an avid amateur cyclist and told the guests from Canada, “With your help, we have created this beautiful trail along the most beautiful beach in Israel.”
