Honored guests included ambassadors and diplomats from Central America, as well as Israeli political figures and senior KKL-JNF representatives.

Lauding the growing friendship and bonds of cooperation between Israel and Central America, KKL-JNF board member Hernan Felman congratulated the ambassadors of Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica on the 193rd anniversary of their independence from Spain in a gala evening reception at the Rabin Center on Sept. 17, 2014.

“We are honored to participate in this special celebration with you, our Central American brothers,” he said, noting the shared love of democratic values and independence between Central America and Israel.

During the recent fighting during Operation Protective Edge, the ambassadors themselves were able to feel the threat of missiles launched at Israel from Gaza, said Felman, and had a better understanding of Israel’s need to protect itself.

Hosting the event held in cooperation with KKL-JNF were Ambassador of Costa Rica Rodrigo X. Carreras, Ambassador of Honduras Jose Isaias Herrera, Ambassador of Guatemala Alfredo Vasquez, and Ambassador of El Salvador Suzana Hasenson.

Some 200 members of the diplomatic core, including ambassadors, military attaches, consuls and invited Israeli guests, enjoyed the genial evening at the center. The event began as the late autumn sun set over the Rabin Center’s picturesque Triguboff Gardens, complete with picnic tables and shade trees, which was developed with the support of JNF Australia friend Harry Triguboff.
