Her Excellency Gao Yanping, the Chinese Ambassador to Israel, met with KKL-JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzler at the Chinese Embassy in Tel Aviv, on Thursday, July 4.

The purpose of the meeting was to get to know each other and to prepare for the upcoming visit of the CPAFFC president Li Xiaolin to Israel.  In addition to the ambassador and Mr. Stenzler, participants included Han Jun, scientific and technological advisor; Dr. Wang Xiangshe, deputy advisor for science and technology; Daniel Tevkov-Sadan, advisor to the KKL-JNF chairman; and Avi Rabinowitz, consultant to KKL-JNF on relations with China.

The ambassador noted the importance of the bilateral relations between China and Israel, and said that in her opinion, "our two countries currently enjoy our best ties ever. China sees its friendship with Israel as having strategic value." The ambassador asked that a document be prepared that will delineate possible areas of cooperation between KKL-JNF and the Chinese Friendship Association, including ecology, green energy, combating desertification, recycling, afforestation, water, research and development, and more. It was also suggested that the document be signed during Ms. Xiaolin's visit to Israel, which will be either in August or September. Ambassador Gao Yanping invited Mr. Stenzler to visit China in the near future.

Mr. Stenzler said that KKL-JNF could plant a forest in honor of the friendship between the countries, China Forest, in the south of Israel, and that he looked forward to collaborating with the Chinese Friendship Association. Stenzler suggested launching a pilot project in China, such as a greenhouse or a research and development station. "We will be delighted to host Ms. Xiaolin during her visit to Israel," Mr. Stenzler said. "We would like her to see our projects in different areas of the country, and afterwards, we will decide on concrete ways and means of collaboration between KKL-JNF and the Chinese Friendship Association," Mr. Stenzler concluded.
