A nice crowd of 300 guests gathered Tuesday evening January 22nd, 2013 to listen to the Czech National Symphony Orchestra playing Jewish Chazanut music.

The well-known conductor Elli Jaffe from Jerusalem conducted the famous cantors Rabbi Jacob Toledano from Geneva, Shmuel Barzilay from Vienna and Avraham Kirchenbaum from Jerusalem.

The evening was opened by a special musical creation “Ilan Ilan”, composed by Elli Jaffe in memory of the late Israeli Astronaut Colonel Ilan Ramon, who perished 10 years ago with his comrades on board the Columbia space shuttle.

Elli Jaffe composed this symphony in appreciation for Ramon’s part in glorifying Israel amongst nations of the world. In his voyage Ilan never forgot his roots, which is what Elli Jaffe aimed to express in this composition. KKL

This piece of music was chosen because “Ilan” means “tree”, an appropriate expression for Tu Bishvat and KKL-JNF.
