Professor Dr. Moshe Kon, President of KKL-JNF Holland has recently received the "Officier in de Orde van Orange-Nassau" decoration that is awarded to very few selected individuals who have made significant contributions to society. The actual process of selecting candidates for the award continues for almost a year and the award is presented to the recipients on Koninginnedag - Queen's Day, which is celebrated on 30th April each year. This is a national holiday in the Netherlands on which the country commemorates the birthday of Queen Juliana, the mother of the present Queen Beatrix. The Queen's award presentation ceremony is a distinguished event that is widely publicized in Holland.
Professor Kon, a plastic surgeon, was one of three people who were presented with the highest award that was given on Queen's Day this year. The award was presented to him by the Mayor of Amsterdam Job Cohen in the name of Queen Beatrix at a special ceremony at the "Beurs van Berlage".
Eli van Dam, Director of KKL-JNF Holland initiated the nomination of Professor Kon for the distinguished award on behalf of KKL-JNF Holland in commemoration of his 60th birthday and as a token of appreciation for his personality and numerous activities for society in general and for the KKL-JNF in particular. Van Dam's original letter of nomination was sent over a year ago as part of the obligatory protocol. In his letter Eli van Dam described in detail Professor Kon's activities together with activities of KKL-JNF Holland, founded in 1902.
The letter included recommendations from universities and hospitals in Holland, Israel, and the United States in which Professor Kon has worked, particularly those in Israel in which he volunteered over the years as a surgeon who treated severe cases.
Professor Kon began his work with KKL-JNF Holland in 1993 as a member of the local board and has served as President since 1996. Under his chairmanship KKL-JNF Holland has helped establish many projects in Israel for the benefit of the people and the environment.
