The connection between Friends of KKL-JNF throughout the world and the work of KKL-JNF Israel is particularly close. Although joint objectives are defined ahead of time, emergencies such as the Lebanon War II change priorities as urgent new needs emerge. For example, we lost some 750,000 adult trees planted in the Galilee hills and lovingly tended for decades, but this setback served only to redouble the energies and determination of KKL-JNF workers in Israel and the organization's Friends throughout the world. Despite another emergency centering on Kassam missile attacks in the south and assisting the Gaza evacuees, the Negev was not neglected, and continues to be a focal area for joint activities. The Negev grows greener year by year as new community infrastructures are created, agriculture and water sources are developed, and efforts continue to develop the extensive network of applied agricultural research and development that provides local people with improved work opportunities and a better quality of life. The caring fingerprints of KKL-JNF's Friends throughout the world is to be seen all over Israel, in land preparation infrastructures, new reservoirs and security roads, river rehabilitation, land conservation and afforestation, agricultural research and development on the one hand, and in recreational sites, play areas, cycling paths, meeting areas for soldiers and their parents, bird observation lookouts and memorial sites on the other. All these contributions touch upon the daily lives of the residents of Israel.
