Four Central American countries celebrated their National Day with KKL-JNF. Ambassadors and other diplomats from all over the world were among the participants, together with representatives from Latin American states, senior KKL-JNF officials and Israeli guests. Together, on September 15th, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica and El Salvador marked the 195th anniversary of their independence and their liberation from Spanish rule.
“This shared independence day symbolizes cooperation
between our countries, which, as time goes by, deepens and works successfully for the benefit of us all,” declared José Isaías Barahona Herrera, Honduras’ ambassador to Israel. “This is also an opportune moment to recall our excellent relations with Israel.”
This festive reception, which took place at Tel Aviv’s Dan Hotel, is an annual event that for many years has been held with the support of KKL-JNF. “This is a wonderful opportunity to bring people together in friendship and raise awareness of KKL-JNF’s involvement in the countries of Latin America and of our commitment to cooperation,” added KKL-JNF Vice Chairman Hernán Felman. “As we’ve got a fair number of joint projects underway with these countries, cooperation with the ambassadors is very important to us indeed, so that we can continue to develop these projects.”
On behalf of all the ambassadors, El Salvador’s Ambassador to Israel Werner Matias Romero welcomed all those present and began his speech by warmly thanking KKL-JNF for its support for the event. To his fellow Central American ambassadors he said: “Our states were born out of the same country, and the ties between us are still important to our growth today. Together we face environmental challenges
in order to provide our citizens with safer and healthier lives.”
