German States Forest is part of Lahav Forest, which is located northwest of Beersheva in the Negev and covers an area of about 30,000 dunams. On Wednesday, March 6, 2013, residents of Kempten- Allgäu, led by Mr. and Mrs. Meir dedicated a forest named for their state.
"The greening of the Negev is one of KKL-JNF's top priorities, and you are our partners in achieving this goal." Ms. Jana Marcus-Natanova, director of KKL-JNF's European Desk, was speaking on Wednesday, March 6 at a ceremony dedicating the Kempten- Allgäu Forest, which is part of the German States Forest located near the Negev town of Lehavim. The ceremony was attended by a group of around thirty people from Germany headed by Mr. and Mrs. Meir from Kempten-Allgäu, who were the driving spirit behind the
fundraising campaign for the forest. For many of the group, this was the first time they heard about KKL-JNF, and Jana described the organization's history and activities to them.
Ms. Meir addressed the group: "We couldn't have done this without the many people who helped us. We didn’t have any single big donors, we literally raised the money for this forest euro by euro, tree by tree. We see it as an expression of the friendship and love we feel for Israel, and people contributed for it with all their heart and souls."
