The 2012 Beautiful Israel Award was presented to KKL-JNF by the President of Israel at a festive and moving ceremony, which took place in Jerusalem on August 29, 2012, at the President’s Residence. As an organization which champions the values of realization, innovation and creation of a greener and more beautiful land, KKL-JNF exemplifies Beautiful Israel every day and in every way.
“KKL-JNF represents an entire people, not just a country,” said President Shimon Peres at the award ceremony. “It is an organization founded on volunteering, and it succeeded as an enterprise because of people's courage and creativity. KKL-JNF was established by the Jewish people, and all the citizens of Israel benefit from the fruits of its labor.”
KKL-JNF World Chairman Efi Stenzler spoke about the work being done by KKL-JNF in diverse fields and said, “The KKL-JNF imprint is visible everywhere. Anyone who walks out the door encounters its beautiful creations.” Credit for these achievements was given by Stenzler to friends of KKL-JNF all over the world. “Our greatness has been, and always shall be, the ability to mobilize the Jews of the diaspora for the sake of work that has to be accomplished here in Israel.”
The Beautiful Israel Award is presented annually, by the Council for a Beautiful Israel, to persons and institutions that have done outstanding work in the creation of environmental projects. This tradition, which is honored by the presence of the President of Israel, has been upheld since 1977. Over the years, this auspicious award has been received by the best of Israel’s initiators and environmental leaders.
“We had no deliberations as to the greatest achiever of beauty in Israel,” said Avraham Katz-Oz, Chairman of the Council for a Beautiful Israel. “KKL-JNF has done a vast amount and will continue to do even more. The story of KKL-JNF is the life story of each and every one of us. The organization continues to renew itself even today, as it has been doing throughout the hundred and ten years of its existence.”
