Yesh Atid: We support Rabbi David Stav for cheif rabbi

Yesh Atid MK Rabbi Shai Piron announced Sunday that his party was supporting Tzohar chairman, Rabbi David Stav in the upcoming election for the position of Ashkenazi chief rabbi.
The announcement came after Yisrael Beytenu MK Faina Kirshenbaum said last weekend that her party also supports Rabbi Stav.
She added that Rabbi Stav regularly promotes connecting different sectors of Israeli society. He himself served in the IDF and his children are now serving.
There are several other possible candidates for the position of Ashkenazi chief rabbi, including two other national-religious rabbis – Eliezer Igra, a rabbinical judge on the Supreme Rabbinical Court, and Ya’acov Shapira, dean of the Mercaz Harav Yeshiva.
A 150-member panel consisting of municipal chief rabbis, mayors and politicians is tasked with electing the chief rabbis through a secret ballot.
