Two bills which would encourage the government to become more environmentally friendly passed preliminary readings in the Knesset Wednesday.
One would require government buildings to become more energy efficient through energy surveys, cost-effective lighting and other measures.
The second would require the government to give preference to companies which have a "green standard" in government tenders.
A "green standard" demonstrates that the company has restricted its environmental impact to the minimum.
