Professor Ran Nathan of the Alexander Silberman Institute of Life Sciences the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has been awarded the university's President's Prize for Outstanding Young Researcher for 2005.
Nathan received his doctorate in evolution from the Hebrew University in 1999 and has since served as a post-doctoral fellow at Princeton University; a visiting research scientist at Duke University; a research associate a the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama; and a senior lecturer at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
Nathan's work, which he terms "Movement Ecology," developed from his initial study of seed dispersal by wind and studies patterns and mechanisms of organism movements, their causes, and consequences.
Hebrew University President Prof. Menachem Magidor said that Nathan won the prize for "the original aspects of his scientific work." The ceremony was held Tuesday, December 27 at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
