SPNI to boycott Environment Ministry gala

The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI) announced Tuesday afternoon that it would be boycotting the Environmental Protection Ministry's 60th anniversary celebration this evening in light of the ministry's about face concerning the new settlement of Mirsham. Reportedly, the ministry had thrown its support behind approving the new settlement in the Lachish region in recent days, despite severe environmental objection. The National Planning Council is expected to decide the fate of the new settlement today. Of 12 lifetime achievement awards to be given out at the gala, five are slated to go to SPNI activists.
