13 police, 5 insurgents killed in Afghan violence

A roadside bomb killed five police and wounded two others on Sunday in eastern Afghanistan, while a clash and a suicide bombing in the west killed eight police and at least five suspected insurgents, officials said. The latest violence comes amid an escalation in attacks and military operations after a winter lull.
