Al-Qaida militants held in Yemen confess to terror plots

A Yemeni security official said Thursday that recently detained members of al-Qaida have confessed to plans to attack oil facilities in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
The official said authorities "obtained during interrogation" confessions from 15 militants arrested after a shootout earlier this week in the town of Tarim in Hadramawt province.
He says Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz was dispatched to Yemen after learning about the confessions. Riyadh did not comment on Nayef's visit.
Yemen is the ancestral homeland of Osama bin Laden and has an active al-Qaida presence despite government efforts to destroy the network.
