An article written by deputy Foreign Minister Majalli Whbee appeared on Tuesday in the leading Indonesian newspaper Tempo. This marks the first time an article by an Israeli official has been published in the main Bahasa Indonesian language. The article dealt with the importance of the role of Indonesia, as a moderate Muslim state, in the Middle East peace process. Israel and Indonesia, the world's most populous Islamic country, do not have diplomatic relations although there are trade and tourism ties. Two Indonesian delegations visited Israel last year.
