Ban Ki-moon: World must deal with many challenges

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is calling on the international community to act boldly to address what he said are five top challenges facing the world: financial stability, climate change, disease, terrorism, and nuclear disarmament. Ban, who was speaking Tuesday at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, said that while the challenges may seem different, they are interconnected. He said the world community must come together to fight global warming, which he said most threatens those developing countries that have contributed least to the problem. He also said the international community has to battle the spread of pandemics that are crossing borders faster than ever and should set a target goal of 2015 to eradicate malaria.
