About 2,500 Muslims marched through Bangladesh's capital Friday to protest against Israel's assaults in Lebanon, denouncing the Jewish state and burning Israeli and American flags, police said. Protesters from about half a dozen Islamic groups also burned effigies of US President George W. Bush and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert as they shouted "Down with Israel" and "Stop killing in Lebanon" outside Dhaka's main Baitul Mokarram mosque, Sardar Hayat Ali, a police official at Paltan police camp, told The Associated Press. They also carried two dummy coffins wrapped in white shroud to symbolize deaths of children caused by Israel's attacks. About 500 protesters from the hard-line Hizbut Tahrir Bangladesh group later burned Israeli and American flags.
