A British soldier was killed in an attack on a base in southern Afghanistan, the British Ministry of Defense said Sunday. Five other soldiers were lightly wounded in the attack.
The soldier, from the 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment, was fatally wounded when a British patrol base in the Helmand Province in southern Afghanistan came under small arms fire Saturday afternoon, the ministry said in a statement. The soldier was ferried to a military hospital by helicopter but died.
