Bus explosions kill two, wound 14 in southwest China

Explosions on two public buses killed two people and wounded 14 others Monday in southwest China, a state news agency reported. The two separate blasts went off Monday morning on buses in downtown Kunming city in southwest Yunnan province, the official Xinhua News Agency said. The first explosion occurred at 7:10 a.m. at the Panjiawan bus stop, and the second at 8:05 a.m. at a nearby intersection, the report said. A destroyed bus was seen in front of the Panjiawan bus stop, Xinhua said, and broken glass was scattered in front. No further information was available. The Kunming police refused to comment, saying the information had been released in the Xinhua reports. The explosions come just weeks before the start of the Olympic Games on Aug. 8 in Beijing. The government has boosted security around the country to try to ensure a worry-free games.
