Bus falls into gorge killing 16 people in northern India, police say

Police say a state-owned bus swerved off a mountain road and fell into a deep gorge, killing 16 people in northern India. Senior police official Kripal Meena says the bus rolled down the gorge and fell into a river. Sixteen people were killed and 15 others injured in the accident near Pithorgarh, in Uttaranchal state. The area is 450 kilometers northwest of Lucknow, capital of neighboring Uttar Pradesh state. Meena says 11 of the injured are in serious condition.
