Car bomb kills 8 civilians in southern Afghanistan

A policeman says a car bomb attack has killed eight people in a farmer's market in southern Afghanistan. Mohammad Hussein Andiwal, the police chief of Helmand province, said the bombing Wednesday in Gereshk district also wounded 17 people, including five children, and killed several sheep. Andiwal accused the Taliban of targeting civilians to "create fear in the people." He said there were no security forces in the area at the time of the explosion.
