China appeals for calm in Palestinian territories

China said it was "concerned" about the situation in the newly divided Palestinian territories, calling Tuesday for calm and renewed negotiations. Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi told visiting Foreign Ministry Director-General Aharon Abramovitch that Beijing "appeals for all parties in Palestine to maintain calm and develop negotiations and talks to resolve the issues quickly," according to a statement posted on the Chinese Foreign Ministry Web site.
