Clinton vows to fight anti-Semitism

US will combat isolation of Israel and anti-Semitism around the globe.

WASHINGTON – US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pledged Tuesday that the US would remain vigilant in the fight against isolating Israel and anti- Semitism, even as the phenomenon continues to grow.
“President Obama and I are determined to curb anti-Semitism and to work to prevent the isolation of Israel internationally,” she declared at a reception held for the Jewish community to honor Hannah Rosenthal, the US special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism.
“It requires us to be vigilant and proactive and to always be addressing the disturbing indications that anti-Semitism is on rise again,” Clinton said.
She highlighted America’s work to battle anti-Semitism in its human rights report, but said that the effort must be comprehensive.
“We don’t want this to be a special effort, we want it to be integrated and rooted in everything we do,” she said.
“We are sending Hannah all over the world,” Clinton said, joking that Rosenthal “is pressing our case everywhere where two or more gather, it seems.”
She also quipped about the shared role that both women find themselves in as their daughters prepare for their upcoming weddings.
“This summer we are MOTBs – Mother of the Brides – together,” Clinton said to laughter. “If you can survive being an MOTB, being the special envoy to monitor and combat anti- Semitism seems like a relief.”
