Conductor James Levine successfully operated for removal of kidney cyst

Doctors say the cyst removed from conductor James Levine's kidney was malignant, but the cancer was caught early and no further treatment is needed.
Doctors in New York removed Levine's right kidney last week because a cyst was causing pressure and discomfort.
Boston Symphony Orchestra Managing Director Mark Volpe said Tuesday that Levine's brother, Tom Levine, told him doctors found the malignant growth on the kidney, but it was very small and confined.
Volpe says the growth did not spread to surrounding tissues or lymph nodes.
Tom Levine says his brother is good spirits and is recuperating at home.
