A large fire at a weapons depot near Maputo airport Thursday sent thousands of people streaming from their homes in panic, eye witnesses said. Police sealed off the area and ambulances headed to the scene. There was no immediate word on casualties. Explosions could be heard throughout the capital city two hours after the fire started in the Magoanine district, about 5 kilometers from the airport. The depot was used to store old weapons and ammunition, some of it from Mozambique's long civil war.
