Floods kill 3, leave nearly 1,500 homeless in Indonesia capital

Flooding from torrential rain killed three children and left nearly 1,500 people homeless in Indonesia's capital, an official said Saturday, as waist-deep waters started to recede. Roads across much of the sprawling metropolis were submerged Friday, bringing traffic to a near standstill and forcing many people to abandon their vehicles - including the country's president. Poor visibility also temporarily shut down the main international airport on Friday. "Three children drowned when they were playing in swollen rivers," said Rustam Pakaya, head of Indonesia's Health Department Crisis Center, adding another 1,463 people had been displaced by the floods.
