Forest fires raging in northern Sweden, forcing some evacuations

Officials said Monday two large fires were ravaging the woods in northeastern Sweden. Rescue service spokesman Lennart Juhlin said firefighters in seven helicopters were working to bring the fires under control. About 20 people have been evacuated from their homes. The two blazes stretch across some 1,100 hectares northwest of Hudiksvall in the district of Halsingsland. Juhlin said extremely dry weather combined with sparks from forestry machinery were believed to have started the fires.
