France's Chirac will not run for re-election

French President Jacques Chirac announced Sunday that he will not seek a third term in the French elections, which are six weeks away. Conservative Chirac, 74, in office for 12 years, had until now kept France guessing about his intentions. "I will not ask for your votes for a new term," he said in a television address.
