German believed to be kidnapped in Afghanistan

A German citizen is believed to have been kidnapped in Afghanistan, a German Foreign Ministry official said Wednesday. The German has been missing since June 28, ministry spokesman Martin Jaeger told reporters. "We have to assume this is a kidnapping on the basis of the indications we have," he said. Jaeger gave few other details. He said the missing man was not working for the German government or for a German aid organization, and was not a journalist. He also said the incident did not take place in the northern region patrolled by the German military.
